3 Ways to learn
By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.
I understand wisdom isn't an attitude solely for the intellectually gifted and is relative, however, I very much believe a foundational skill set is necessary to begin and support the journey of enlightenment that is wisdom.
I disagree. To me, NO skill set is required or needs to be learned before wisdom can be acquired. Everyone has a set of skill preprogrammed already - we are already born with what's needed to "go".
So you are proposing that we 'learn' the skills as we move forward; in essence, developing wisdom and skills concurrently? Without doing so, there is no platform to build on. What skills are we pre-programmed with?
No, I am saying that "learning" skills are NOT a point as we are ALL born with a set of skills. In effect, we don't have to "learn" skills in order to become wise.
I disagree with you. While we may have a very finite set of basic skills, these are not sufficient to develop wisdom. We know not what / how to put these skills to use -- part of the learning process from infancy. We're building on those skills and using them to process next steps developmentally. It is this combination, and the experiences that accompany that allow wisdom to develop. Your last sentence implies that wisdom is just going to be bestowed upon us...'I dub you wise'...and that if we have nothing more than those basic skills we leave the womb with, we can become wise individuals. No, not buying it!
