I think that mistrust is a rift in time. It's amazing how the cycle of time can be interrupted by the paradox of mistrust. No matter what the cause is of the mistrust, the rifts interruption is apparent in the space/time continuum - the continuum of trust between two more people. Every emotion/feeling/bond has a given energy to it.
Once the rift has been interjected into a given continuum, any events preceding its commencement are forgotten. All of the goods deeds, helpful gestures and other acts of being a good Samaritan are tainted and seemingly omitted from the "victims" memory. We all know time is not in a straight line - hell even the device we observe time on ( a watch) is even a circle. This means that time has a cyclical nature not a linear one. If we could keep all of this in mind if/when we either cause mistrust or receive it then we would be more forgiving in some instances.
The cause of such events is sometimes more important that the result of them. For example: stealing milk from a store is a class D felony - period however, is stealing milk to feed your starving baby still a class D felony too. The cause of that particular rift in the American judicial system is often over looked and the act of stealing its self is deemed more important even though that baby's life was in question.
I think it's also important to understand that when one is being dictated by the laws of survival then our societal ones become second and tertiary. In addition it should be noted that what "we" feel is mistrust is nothing more than our own insecurities oppossed to the offense thought to have been committed by another.
All I am saying is that if we look more into the causes opposed to the effects then perhaps our prevention would become much better than our cures.
