Someone on CNN is on some special crack if they actually thought that giving D.L. Hughley a weekend show was a good idea. I never thought in a million years CNN would go this route.
I recently watched an episode and what a waste of vewining time it was so I wanted to tell you all not to make the same mistake. It's terrible. Not only is Hughley not funny, but the show's content consists almost entirely of one Black stereotype after another. CNN, I really expected more out of you. D.L. Hughley might be pushing the stereotypes, but I'm declaring you guilty by association. Such a shame.
Perhaps CNN was trying to boost ratings among Black households. If they were, then someone needs to explain to CNN that D.L. Hughley pretty much got his Black pass revoked a long time ago. He was granted a temporary pass back after the display of love he showed at Bernie's memorial service (widely circulated on YouTube), but most Black people were pretty much over him when he made the following remarks immediately after the Imus controversy, "Now they aren't 'hoes,' but there were some nappy-headed women on that team...Those are some of the ugliest women I've ever seen in my whole life." Really, Hughley? Wait. Let me not digress here.
The highlight of the CNN show was that former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan announced his support of Barack Obama during a sit-down with Hughley and, for a brief moment, it looked like D.L. Hughley was actually going to indulge us with an intelligent, witty one on one. Note please that I said, "for a brief moment" as that little piece of grace was too short-lived to redeem the other 55 minutes CNN wasted on Hughley's Tom Foolery.

Dmitri, unfortunately this post did not arrive fast enough to save me from the awful mistake of watching this show. Luckily I only caught about 10 minutes of this garbage, but that was more than enough. It seemed to me to be nothing more than a disastrous attempt to meld the Daily Show with the Chapelle Show. The end result is a blight on the otherwise respectable CNN.
ReplyDeleteBut, if there is a silver lining in all of this, I suppose it would be that the chances of this show making it more than a month or two are slim to none. Then D.L. will be back to being the worthless comedian he has always been.
