I remember when a Instant Message was a soft kiss on the lips, a random hug for no reason, a note to that crush you had hand off each passing period in school, when you had to wait for your pager to get hit with 17-37107-1 on your screen, when three-way calling and 4 people still couldn't hold enough convo...
Whew, those were "my" instant messages when I was younger!
Yea, and treasured more for the meaning or gesture that went with. Brings a smile and memories of a simpler life when we weren't so readily accessible to the world 24/7. Technology is great, but a bit of escape every now and then is critical for self health, well-being and re-energizing.
ReplyDeleteYup, we must NEVER forget the "human factor"...
ReplyDeleteYes I agree that WE must never forget the human factor. Technology is a fantastic, ever-evolving presence in the lives of humans. Often, some of these new-age forms of communication (IM, text, etc.) I struggle with (during personal interactions) because I am deprived of the emotional connection (unless that person I'm speaking with actually types out his feelings during that interaction). If I care (or dare I say love) that person, I'll ask many questions--truly in the effort to understand that person's thoughts/concerns/activities/plan/dreams. I miss these IMs too. Not just these types of IMs for people, but that special guy who I think loves me (?)---at least I hope he does...
