Real life or entertainment?

This new movie "Avatar" looks like it will be a great movie!! Continuous action, beautiful graphics and smooth cinematography however, there are sooo many stigmatic undertones within it.

Its another sad classic tale of the white man that finds and wants the treasures of another race then he wages war on the race to harvest and extract said treasures. It's almost hard to find this entertaining...

  1. It is interestingly disturbing that the story of Colón and other similar expeditions are continuously retold as if the story (or history rather) was an original one...

And in spite of it, I'm still curious to see what spin Hollywood puts on it this time...

Welcome back to the big screen Pocahontas and John Smith;-) More ammunition to educate our youth!

  2. I know right?! Culturally I am not even sure how the dominant culture doesn't "fix" the mis-told stories. The history we are taught in school is almost irrelevant and only paints a one sided picture. The dominant culture tells the history as they want it told...

I thought history was objective instead of subjective - stupid me!

  5. There are two types of people in this world. Those who are part of the problem and those who are part of the solution. It's time to stop perpetuating the wrong and fuel what is right. We've spoken of this many times before, and know it won't happen easily. But giving lip service to what we already know, does nothing, Curiosity, simply fuels the status quo!! This mentality in the hands of parents and/or those who educate our children, must change. My opinion!

  6. @ Vic - I agree there are only 2 types of people. Lip service? Its starts with speaking up and making clear what's wrong. Verbalizing the injustice and "squeaking" until heard by those with dominant control....

  7. Speaking up is only a very small piece. You know that and speak it so clearly in every other aspect of what you do. Setting a course of action is critical. You, of all people, D, know you can't 'bring' the problem without identifying a path for change. How often do you preach that sermon?!?! Just because the problem is challenging doesn't mean you seek a way around what is needed!

  8. I believe curiosity is where change begins. You can't change what you do not know. It is important to be well versed in dominant culture as well as in the secondary, even if you disagree. What purpose does it serve to only be knowledgeable of all ideologies that are in alignment with your own? We must know what our opponents know as well, otherwise we have nothing to rise above. If we know what they know or how they feel, our next move will be better calculated...

  9. I couldn't agree more, if you enter the experience with the intention to grow and / or impact change. Intention is what separates nosiness from curiosity and guides purpose.
